Marvel's Wonder Man Preview Unveils Marvel's Most Meta Series To Date

The Marvel studio is aware that viewers could be feeling some superhero exhaustion, so they've decided to incorporate this exact concept into their next superhero show.

Indeed, the first preview for Wonder Man has arrived, and it pledges a self-referential angle on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The trailer, which debuted on October 10th, also quietly moved the Wonder Man release date later from its original late 2025 slot into January 2026.

Why one more superhero film? People is weary of superheroes. Why go see them in the cinema? Wonder Man resonated with me on a deep level. There is an chance to shock viewers. To reinvent the whole genre of storytelling.

The reporter responds: "Have you given any thought about casting?"

The trailer then transitions to lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's watching the interview on his mobile device, and the trailer concludes.

Key Details About Wonder Man

We already knew that Wonder Man would be a meta take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series features Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a film star who transforms into a superhero (Wonder Man).

The supporting cast features Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (aka Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's agent Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed coming back as Department of Damage Control officer P. Cleary.

The Studio's Self-Referential Comedy Strategy

We don't know much else about the plot of Wonder Man, but it's evident that Marvel plans to laugh at its own tropes.

In the wake of Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems like the production company is all in on meta-humor. Will this approach succeed without the star power of its previous leads? We'll have to wait and see.
