Djokovic Issues Caution to Jannik Sinner: Doping Ban Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"
The tennis star has warned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will linger over his career as a constant shadow – and raised doubts about the timing of the penalty in the previous season.
Details of the Suspension
Sinner completed a three-month suspension in February 2025 after the global anti-doping body accepted his explanation that a banned anabolic steroid, the steroid clostebol, had entered his system accidentally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the remainder of our respective careers," the champion remarked in a discussion on a popular YouTube program.
"It's just something that, it was so major, and after such events, over time it will fade, but I don't think it will disappear. There will inevitably exist a certain group of people that will continually reference the incident."
Djokovic's Perspective
The Serbian player stated that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "had no intentional involvement", but he proceeded to question how the Italian managed to serve his time without missing a grand slam.
"The absence of openness, the irregularity, the convenience [of] the ban coming between the slams, so he doesn't miss out the others – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.
